Aghadoe Heights sits high above Killarney, and the view is the reason to come: lakes, mountains and the Kerry countryside laid out below. Rooms are air-conditioned, with separate baths and walk-in showers, and some have floor-to-ceiling windows.

The spa looks out over the same view and has a hot tub, steam room, indoor pool and a range of treatments. Dinner is in the Lake Room, built around a glass-walled wine cellar, or you can eat out on the terrace in good weather.

Killarney town is about two miles away, the riding stables are a short walk, and the hotel runs transfers from Kerry Airport.
